Think About It!

I have always enjoyed the book of Proverbs and have found it to be a blessing to read a chapter daily. As I was studying one morning, the Lord quickened me to notice the word “froward” (see previous post for more on this word).

Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward tongue, do I hate.  Froward tongue – stubbornly, self-willed.

The Word of God is revealing a truth to us here and the danger in not seeing it and receiving it. We all know the chapter in James that teaches us about the tongue. It draws a clear picture for us of how unruly this small member of our body is if we don’t allow the Holy Spirit to have control over it. If the froward tongue is stubbornly self-willed then it speaks as it desires, in other words, it is allowed to say what it likes.

How many times have you heard people even brag about how they say whatever they think? That is not a very wise person according to the ways of the Lord. We need to think before we speak and weigh our words, because we are going to either bring life by them or destruction.

Proverbs 12:18 There is that speaks like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

Proverbs 4:24 Put away from thee a froward tongue and perverse lips put far from thee.

Proverbs 22:5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Amen!
